Partnership will deploy HYDROGRID Insight for inflow forecasting, production & maintenance planning—maximizing uptime in the high‑alpine Tergi River valley.

Vienna, October 7th, 2025 – Dariali Energy - one of Georgia’s largest independent power producer - has chosen HYDROGRID to implement its hydropower optimization platform at the 108 MW Dariali Hydropower Plant in northern Georgia. The run‑of‑river facility sits at ~2,400 m elevation on the Tergi River in the Qazbegi district —an alpine, steep‑valley landscape where inflows and sediment dynamics demand precise planning.

To leverage the full potential of operations digitalization, Dariali will deploy HYDROGRID Insight's Inflow, Production Planning, Long‑Term Planning, and Maintenance Planning—to help the plant optimize water use and  schedule recurring maintenance outside of peak production periods, boosting generation efficiency and overall profits.

What our partners say

“Operating between 1,300 and 1,800 meters above sea level in a narrow Caucasus valley under harsh natural conditions presents unique challenges for the Dariali Hydropower Plant. Accurate inflow forecasting and precisely timed maintenance are essential to keeping the plant at peak performance today – and will be equally critical as we prepare to participate in Georgia’s spot electricity market in the near future. With HYDROGRID’s digital optimization tools, we expect to increase generation uptime, use water resources more efficiently, and further strengthen our commitment to sustainable and environmentally responsible operations.”
Giorgi Kavtaradze, CEO, Dariali Energy

“We’re proud to support Dariali Energy on HYDROGRID’s first project in Georgia. Run‑of‑river plants in alpine topologies face a unique mix of hydrology and maintenance constraints—exactly where Insight’s combined inflow, production, and maintenance planning brings measurable results the quickest.”
Janice Goodenough, CEO, HYDROGRID

Dariali Energy is one of Georgia’s leading and largest renewable power producers and the owner of the Dariali Hydropower Plant. Leveraging state-of-the-art technology and maintaining world-class environmental and operational standards, the company is driving Georgia’s transition to clean energy while contributing to sustainable economic growth in the Caucasus region.

The 108 MW Dariali Hydropower Plant features three 36 MW vertical Pelton turbines and has adhered to best-in-class standards from construction onward, including a carbon-neutral build supported by a reforestation program designed to fully offset lifecycle emissions. The USD 125 million project was financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and was recognized with EMEA Finance’s Best Water Project in Central & Eastern Europe award in 2014.

Why digitalize a high‑mountain run‑of‑river plant?

  • Make every cubic meter count in steep terrain: HYDROGRID’s inflow intelligence supports day‑to‑day production planning in a valley system marked by rapid hydrological changes.
  • Plan maintenance around sediment stress: With frequent equipment interventions due to severe sedimentation, the Maintenance Planning module helps align outages with natural low‑value windows to maximize uptime.
  • Simplify operations under a flat‑tariff PPA: For run‑of‑river assets with lower commercial complexity, automated planning brings consistency and transparency across seasons.
